Timothy Patrick DeLaney, 67, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Born on October 10, 1957, in East St. Louis, IL, Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas DeLaney and Jean (née Deterding) Wernle; his stepfather, Eldo Wernle; his brother, Patrick DeLaney; and his sister, Pam Motycka.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine (née DeBord) DeLaney, whom he married on August 1, 1997; two daughters, Erin Nemsky and Jan (Jonathan) Goedeke; stepdaughter, Jill (Brock) Ohnesorge, stepson, Brian Hanke; and five cherished grandchildren: Darren Jones, Austin Hanke, Chatham Nemsky, Carter Goedeke, and Colten Goedeke. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Chuck Motycka.

In 1975, Tim proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He went on to build a remarkable 45-year career at Basler Electric in Highland, IL, retiring as a supervisor admired for his leadership and dedication. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he spent many years playing in the Men's STL Baseball League, umpiring in the MERBLE and SWIBL Leagues, and serving as an IHSA official. He also enjoyed countless rounds of golf. Beyond the field, Tim was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals, and he found great joy in barbequing and, above all, spending quality time with his family-the source of his greatest happiness.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, and again from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cardinals Care or the Dementia Society of America. Contributions will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.

I played with and against Tim for many years and he was one of my favorites. Always had something witty to say when I went to bat while he was catching. Rest in peace, my friend.

I am sad to have received this news. Tim was a great friend and teammate the years I spent with the Pirates. It was always a good time on and off the field when you were around. You will be missed my friend.

A very sad day for me as I have lost my favorite catcher. Timmy made me the pitcher and player I am today via the years together as a Pirate. Rest in peace buddy, I will always remember you and thanks for being there for me.

I will miss my team-mate and friend Tim. He always made me feel like he was happy to see me and talk with me about what we had in common, electrical work and baseball. A great baseball player, who played with determination, respect for opponents, team-mates, and the game. A loyal friend that will surely be missed.
