Sparta, Illinois - Bernice R. McClure, 85, of Sparta, IL; born to William Frank and Ethel Elizabeth (nee, Wiskamp) Herzog on January 5, 1941, in New Athens, IL; passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Sparta Community Hospital.
Bernice loved her family and enjoyed visiting her friends. She loved to dance and was the life of the party wherever she went. She worked as a ward clerk at Memorial Hospital in Belleville for many years. Bernice valued the time and company of her beloved niece, Nina.
Bernice is survived by her children – William Farrar of Tilden, IL, Glenda Farrar of Sparta, IL, and Jason Haines of Tilden, IL; brother – Elmer Herzog of Nashville, IL; six grandchildren – Loretta Robertson of NC, Nathan Farrar of Marissa, IL, Kenny (wife, Tonya) Farrar of Tilden, IL, Khourtney Allison of MO, Amber (husband, Jason) Crump of Belleville, IL, David (wife, Macailah) Cumberland of Red Bud, IL; twenty great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, with another on the way; niece – Nina (husband, Elmer) Jackson of Granite City, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter - Shirley Lynn Haines; sister-in-law - Cindy Herzog; husband - Oscar Farrar; life partner of 30 years- Gary Morrison.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Hospice.
Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.
