Bernice Starks

Bernice Starks, a beloved soul, departed from us on December 2, 2023, at the age of
92, in Loganville, Georgia. Bernice was born on February 8, 1931, to her parents Lou
Bertha White and Jessie Williams in Varner, Arkansas. Her journey through life was
marked by resilience, quiet strength, and a captivating spirit.
From her early years, Bernice, though quiet, embodied a feisty and no nonsense
demeanor. An adventurous spirit led her to relocate to Detroit, Michigan, after her
marriage to King Starks at the age of 17. In Detroit, she built a life full of love and
devotion, especially to her beautiful daughter, Loretta Starks. Motherhood brought
immense joy to Bernice, and her heart cherished the moments spent with Loretta, who
sadly departed in 2002.
Professionally, Bernice dedicated many years to the Kimberly-Clark corporation, as a
Production Technician, retiring in 1992. Beyond her work, she found solace and purpose
in her deep-rooted faith. Her passion for Jesus Christ and the church was unwavering.
While in Detroit, she was an integral part of Solomon's Temple church, under the
guidance of the late William Bonner, who baptized her. Bernice actively served as a
licensed missionary, usher, and choir member, spreading God's word with love and
dedication.
Later in life, Bernice continued her spiritual journey in Florida, extending her ministry to
those around her. After relocating to Georgia, she became a faithful member of Bible
Way Ministries International (BWMI) church. Despite health challenges that prevented
her from attending services in person, her dedication to the church remained steadfast.
Bernice's warmth and kindness endeared her to the members of BWMI.
Bernice leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her lovely
granddaughter, Keenan Lofton, grandsons David Carraway and Christopher Carraway,
four great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and siblings, including
Doris Allen, Aretha Murphy, and Randolph Spencer. She joins her husband, King Starks,
daughter Loretta Foster, brother Jessie Williams, and sisters Dorothy Thomas and
Atnise Nelson in eternal peace.
A memorial service to celebrate Bernice's life will be held at Bible Way Ministries,
International, located at 894 Constitution Road SE, Atlanta, GA 30315, on December 9
at 11 am. In this time of grief, please share your condolences and fond memories with
