A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bernice Tharpe, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Bernice was born in Rochelle, Georgia. After graduating high school, she married the love of her life, the late Homer “Buddy” Lynwood Tharpe, Jr., and together they built a life centered around love and family. Bernice’s greatest joy came from caring for those she loved. She also held a deep appreciation for nature and often planted gardens to attract beautiful hummingbirds and butterflies. Bernice will be deeply missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Bernice’s memory will forever be cherished by her children, Debbie Brunson (Randy) of Warner Robins, and Rhonda Burchette (Scott) of Stockbridge; five grandchildren, Daniel Brunson of Kathleen, Rebecca Burchette of Indianapolis, IN, Sarah Brunson West (Colin) of Bonaire, Jennifer Burchette of Stockbridge, and Joshua Brunson of Kathleen; great-granddaughters, Maddie and Evelyn West of Bonaire; as well as several beloved sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.

At her request, all services held will be private.
