Bernie Dale Alsup, 84, passed into Glory on October 22, 2025 at home as he slept. He was born October 2, 1941 to Thomas & Grace Lee Alsup.
Bernie graduated from Killeen High School, Class of 1960. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a radioman with many commendations. He married Shirley Joplin and they lived in many places such as Hawaii and Okinawa as the Navy moved them from base to base. Bernie and Shirley celebrated their 60th anniversary in March of this year.
Bernie had many jobs in his life, besides being a radioman in the Navy, he was a Postal worker, a furniture delivery man, a civil service worker for the Air Force and a janitor at the local High School. He did each job to the best of his ability.
He was faithful to go to church after he was saved at the age of 54, He loved Jesus and would tell anyone willing to listen. He read his Bible everyday and had a giving spirit. He would help anyone who truly needed it.
He loved animals of all kinds; he could not even kill a mouse. His dogs Snookie and Freddie were like children to him. He feed the birds, squirrels and geese. He loved all the colorful birds and the rest of God's creation.
Bernie had many hobbies; he loved taking pictures of everything. He took great joy in documenting family events, church events, and everything in between. He also loved genealogy; he has a file cabinet full of names. If you wanted to know your family history, he would look it up for you. He tinkered with playing the guitar and music keyboard and he loved Elvis Presley and would often sing like Elvis.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents Thomas Alsup and Grace Lee Alsup Ballard, his brothers: Teddy Alsup, Harley Alsup and John Lee Ballard. He is survived by his wife Shirley Alsup, his children: Rebecca Kedziora, Jennifer Hill and her husband David, and Dale Alsup and his wife Kandis Alsup. Yesterday

Please accept my condolences. I met Bernie in 1968 when I reported aboard the USS DeHaven in Long Beach, California. I had been in the Navy for a while, but the DeHaven was my first ship. Bernie helped make my life so much easier than it would have been otherwise. I will always remember Bernie as a good man. RIP my friend.
