Berniece Dorothy Segebart December 3, 1929 - February 14, 2024 Berniece Dorothy Segebart was born on December 3, 1929, in Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of August and Mahala (Johannsen) Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Berniece attended Country School in Hanover Township and later at Denison School. Her early years instilled in her the values of hard work, determination, and a deep sense of community. On June 19, 1949, Berniece was united in marriage to Carl Segebart at the Zion Lutheran Church. Together they created a life filled with love and cherished memories. Their union was blessed with six children: Terry, Debra, Cole, Jim, Ryan, and Doreen. They made their home on the family farm south of Vail. Berniece found solace and strength through her strong faith. Over the years, she was an active member of several churches including: Zion Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, and finally Our Savior Lutheran Church where she found great fulfillment. Berniece participated in the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Guild, SNAP Club, and a Sunday School Teacher over the years. Berniece had various interests that brought joy to her life. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards with loved ones, making cream puffs, dancing to lively tunes and hosting Father's Day picnics. She took pleasure in quilting, sewing, needle work, and creating handmade toys for her beloved grandchildren. She also had a green thumb and took great pride in her gardening endeavors. Berniece loved to travel and she enthusiastically supported the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and Iowa Hawkeyes, embracing the joy that sports brought to her and those around her. Berniece passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Gracewell-Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, attaining the age of 94 years, 2 months, and 11 days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Segebart; infant son, Terry Segebart; and 7 siblings. She is survived by her children: Debra and her husband Kieth Osborn of Denison; Cole Segebart and his wife Deborah of North Chesterfield, Virginia; Jim Segebart and his wife Carol of Denison; Ryan Segebart and his wife Kari of Denison; and Doreen and her husband Jason Buls of Ankeny; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Bilsten of Denison; sister-in-law, Arlis Petersen of Ute; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 23, 2024 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiated the service with interment in the Hayes Township Cemetery in Westside, Iowa. Pianist Emily Carlson provided accompaniment for congregational hymns "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," "How Great Thou Art," "Jesus Loves Me," "Peace Like a River" and "Amazing Grace." Serving as honorary pallbearers were Emily Carlson, Molly Walter, Samantha Wiley, Sara Ericson, Natalie Segebart, Whitney Weis, Naomi Wallace and Lewis Wallace. Serving as pallbearers were Dan Segebart, Nicholas Osborn, Ellery Segebart, Jacob Segebart, Peter Segebart, Adam Buls, Jaydon Buls, Jordan Buls, Jaren Buls and Jalen Buls. Following the service, the family invited everyone to join them in the basement of the church for a time of fellowship and lunch. Services were entrusted to the Huebner Funeral Home.
