Bernus Ann Buffington, 85, of Emmitsburg passed peacefully at York Hospital, Monday, December 29, 2025. Born Friday, August 23, 1940 in Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Walter Shorb and Anna Maude Shorb, nee Grable. She was the beloved wife of Gerald Lorraine Buffington, her husband of 28 years, who passed away Saturday, April 3, 1993; devoted mother of Ronald Eugene Buffington, Sr. and his significant other Sue Wentz, and Margaret Ann Blizzard; loving grandmother of Ronald Buffington, Jr., Andrew Buffington, and Larissa Blizzard; proud great grandmother of Hunter and Finn; cherished sister of Preston “Sonny” Shorb, Sandra McHenry, and Rick Shorb; dear friend of Rick and Joann Airing; and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brother James Boarts and her friend Frances Roser.
She was a devoted caregiver and housekeeper at the St. Joseph Provincial House in Emmitsburg with the Daughter’s of Charity for many years. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests but most of all loved playing cards, enjoying a good meal of crab cakes and steak and most of all cherished the time spent with family and friends.
At her request, there will not be a public visitation or service. The family will have a private graveside service, where she will be laid to rest with her husband at Pipe Creek Cemetery.
