Bert Raymond Blankenbeckler, age 80, of Elliott County, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born April 7, 1945, in Elliott County, a son of the late James and Hazel Skaggs Blankenbeckler.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dixie Blankenbecker, whom he married July 9, 1968; three great nieces, whom they raised as their own, Summer Bencze of Michigan, Brandy Brown (Kyle) of Hebron, Kentucky, and Samantha Carter of Lexington, Kentucky, and Papaw's favorites: Karter, Kash and Jett. Others to treasure his memory include several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Kimberly Sue Blankenbeckler, whom he and Dixie raised and considered as their daughter; two brothers, Willie Blankenbeckler and Olen Blankenbeckler; and five sisters, Yvonne Reinholtz, Ottie Mae Skaggs, Bertalene Edwards, Dorene Blankenbeckler, and Flora Walker.
He was a retired educator for the Maysville Community and Technical College, Rowan Campus, and a well-known carpenter. Bert loved a hot cup of coffee and enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, wood working, traveling, and watching old westerns. Most of all, he cherished time with family, especially with his wife and girls. Bert will be remembered always and greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Bert's residence (in Elliott County), 256 Dewey Garris Road, Olive Hill, KY 41164. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 3 p.m. with Pastor David Rayburn and Larry Walker officiating.
Burial will follow in Skaggs-Wilson-Blankenbecker Cemetery, 200 Dewey Garris Road, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
