Bert A. Moede Sr. started his journey to the Spirit World on March 17, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on February 5, 1948, to the late Oleyna (Miller) and William Moede. He was a proud member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indian, the Mohican Veterans and American Legion Post #390 in Gresham. Bert served in the US Army from 1968-1970.
Bert’s biggest joys in life included watching his sons and grandchildren race stock cars, ice cars and 4-wheelers. In the 1970’s Bert himself was a member of the Stockbridge Mud Runners and raced ice cars of his own. He also enjoyed his daily cruises around the Rez and his old stomping grounds of Morgan Siding. He was a NASCAR fan and loved shooting pool and throwing horseshoes. His love for Chevy trucks shined through; his other loves included being an over the road and dump truck driver, music and North Star Casino.
Bert is survived by his children: Shawn Moede, Roberta (Roscoe) Carrington, Bert Jr. (Heather) Moede and Brandy (Ari) Moede, all of Bowler; his grandchildren: Alyx, Tashina, Raini, Storm, Jett, Libby, Cienna, Bert III, BranLee, Nautika, Aaliyah and Caiden; and his 15 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings: Jerry, Ruthie, JoAnne, Larry and Butch. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Betty in infancy, Harold, Wump, Tookie, Billy and Joyce, his grandson, Talon Peters and special sisters-in-law, Sonja and Marian.
Private Traditional Services will be held at his residence on Saturday, March 21st and Sunday, March 22nd with a funeral on Monday, March 23rd, at Noon at the Gresham American Legion Post #390. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mohican Veterans and American Legion Post #390, graveside at the Red Springs Cemetery following the services.
