Alberta Vasquez Diaz, affectionately known to many as Bertha Diaz, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026 in
Kyle, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on April 23, 1938 in
Austin, Texas, Bertha was a woman of great faith and boundless love, whose life was a testament to the power of family and strength of the human spirit.
Bertha's journey began as the cherished daughter of her Austin-based family, and it was there that she learned the value of love, compassion, and the importance of family. Her heart grew to encompass her own family as she married the love of her life, Frank M. Diaz. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage filled with joy, challenges and countless blessings before Frank's passing. Bertha was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Sisk, whose memory she held dear.
The matriarch of a loving family, Bertha is survived by her children: Frank V. Diaz, Gloria Brown and husband, Richard, Catherine Diaz-Murray and husband, Stuart, Robert V. Diaz and wife, Mindy, and James V. Diaz. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Rachel De Vos, Alex and Silas Brown, and her cherished, great-grandchild, Quinn De Vos. Each of them carries forward the light of her wisdom, love and faith.
Bertha was a devout Christian who lived her faith through her actions and unwavering support for her family. She embraced the role of homemaker with a passion that went beyond the walls of her own home, extending to school activities and the lives of her children and grandchildren. Bertha's presence was a constant source of comfort and guidance, making her a pillar not only within her family but also within her community.
Known for her culinary talents, Bertha's kitchen was the heart of many family gatherings. Her enchiladas and rice, chicken mole, tamales, and buñelos were not just meals but expressions of her love. The aroma of Mexican hot chocolate often filled her home, bringing warmth and comfort to all who entered.
Those who knew Bertha would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and wise. Her advice was sought after, her hugs could heal, and her strength was the foundations upon which her family was built. She nurtured her children with a gentle hand and a firm resolve, teaching them the importance of kindness, respect and the power of prayer. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence.
As we bid farewell to Bertha Diaz, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman dearly loved. Her memory will be cherished, her lessons remembered, ad her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt her love.
