In Loving Memory of

John Frank Byous

December 1, 1935 – February 15, 2026

John Frank Byous, age 90, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, February 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. In his final moments, we were blessed to hold him as he had held us so many times throughout our lives-with strength, tenderness, and unwavering devotion.

Born on December 1, 1935, in Greenville, Texas, John was the beloved son of William Earl Byous Sr. and Ethel Marie Humphreys Byous. From humble beginnings, he grew into a man defined by integrity, sacrifice, and a boundless love for his family.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying that same spirit of dedication into his 42-year career with Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked tirelessly to ensure his family never went without. Providing for those he loved was not merely a responsibility to him; it was his greatest joy and calling.

On December 3, 1955, John married the love of his life, Patricia Martha Laughlin. Together they built a life rooted in faith, commitment, and deep affection. Their marriage endured for 67 beautiful years, until Patricia's passing on December 9, 2022, just days after celebrating their anniversary. Theirs was a love story marked by devotion and partnership, a model of steadfast commitment for all who knew them.

John was a devoted father to four daughters: Donalyn Marie Wagner, Terry Byous Koenig, Rhonda Byous Chaffin, and Stacy Ann Byous. His daughters were his pride, and he led them with quiet strength, steady guidance, and unconditional love. Stacy's husband Frederick Aus, who with Stacy tirelessly cared for Dad, was nothing less than a son to John, finally able to watch his sports with an equally enthusiastic partner.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia; his cherished daughter Donalyn; his parents; his sisters, Eloise Byous Gleason, and Patricia Byous Faulkner; and his brother, William Earl Byous Jr.

He leaves behind daughters Terry, Rhonda, and Stacy; sons-in-law, Fred Aus and Larry Wagner; his grandchildren, Benjamin Klumpp (Mary Elise), Christianne Klumpp Flowers (RaShon), Dylan Chaffin, Cortland Koenig, and Case Koenig; and his treasured great-granddaughters, Sophia, Dallas, Leona, Sierra, Delilah, and Laurel. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Norma Byous and Christine Laughlin, along with many extended family members and friends who were blessed by his good heart.

John had a heart that gave freely and without hesitation. If someone had a need, he met it. If someone needed encouragement, he offered it. His generosity was quiet but constant, a reflection of the depth of his character.

A faithful member of Santa Cruz Catholic Church, John lived his faith not only in worship but in action-through kindness, forgiveness, and steadfast love. He was also a devoted fan of the Houston Oilers and the Houston Astros, cheering faithfully through every season.

To his family, John was more than a provider or protector-he was our hero. He taught us by example the meaning of sacrifice, loyalty, perseverance, and forgiveness. His steady presence shaped our lives, and his love will remain the foundation upon which we continue to build.

Though our hearts ache in his absence, we rejoice in a life so beautifully lived and a love so generously given. We will seek to emulate his spirit every day, honoring him through our love for one another.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." ~ Matthew 25:23
