Leola Byous

On Thursday, December 11, 2025, the angels lovingly welcomed Leola Byous home. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, Leola lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. Leola was born in Shelby, Mississippi to the late Bossie Byous, Sr. and Irene Singleton Byous. Leola was the fifth of nine children. Leola accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Austerlitz Street Baptist Church. Her unwavering faith in God sustained her throughout her earthly journey and guided her life's walk. Leola was a loving, kind, funny, generous, and compassionate woman who touched countless lives. She will be remembered for her deep love for her family, her devotion to friends, and her genuine care for others. Leola leaves to cherish and celebrate her life and legacy her beloved children: Lolita Payton-Alfred (the late Andrew) of New Orleans, LA. Fredrick Payton (Tobeika) of Atlanta, GA. Mark Byous (Lynn) of Atlanta, GA. Lucas Byous (Chiquita) of New Orleans, LA. David Byous of New Orleans, LA. Jennifer Byous (Kermit) of New Orleans, LA. and godchild Coburt Jackson of LaPlace, LA. also 19 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, December 20, 2025, for 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks Fourth Baptist Church, 2130 Perdido Street, New Orleans, LA 70112. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Robert Turner, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, 3540 US-90, Avondale, LA 70094.
