Thomas "Tom" James Brashear, Sr.

October 29, 1947 – March 3, 2026

Thomas "Tom" James Brashear, a devoted family man, loyal friend, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on October 29, 1947, in Edinburg, Texas, to Lloyd James and Mary Magdalene Brashear, Tom spent his early years in the Edinburg area before the family moved to Lasara, Texas. After his eighth-grade year, he enrolled at Raymondville High School. Following his high school graduation, Tom answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He served with deep pride in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31).

On April 9, 1969, Tom married the love of his life, Marilyn Sue. Together, they built a beautiful legacy rooted in love, loyalty, and unwavering support for one another. Tom was an amazing son, husband, and father who treasured his family above all else. His heart truly belonged to his nine grandchildren: Gavin, Grady, Kathryn, Sidney, Sarah, Dean, Samantha, Aiden, and Tyler. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with them or brag about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen.

Known for his generous spirit, Tom was the kind of person who always took the time to help others. For many years, he served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at the altar and taught catechism to the confirmation class at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Raymondville. He also volunteered in the spring to coach Little League Baseball for the team "Brown-Haynes." He was very proud of all the young men he met on that baseball diamond and would proudly recall some of their greatest hits or plays. His loving nature and steadfast loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Tom is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lloyd James and Mary Magdelene; his brother Lloyd James, Jr.; and his cherished daughter, Tamara Jo.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 57 years, Marilyn Sue; his siblings, Dale and Marylan; and his loving children, Thomas James Jr. (Christine "Kiki" Lynn), Constance Ann (Jacob "Jay" John), and Sean Michael (Nicky). His memory will forever live on through his nine grandchildren, who were his absolute pride and joy.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at Harrell Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will follow the next morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church in Kyle, Texas, with a graveside ceremony at 11:30 a.m., concluding the services at Memory Lawn Memorial Park.
