Bertha King Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by D'Anjolell Stigale Memorial Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of Aston on Jun. 5, 2025.
Bertha Louise King, "Aunt Louise", of Media, PA, passed from this life to the life eternal on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Lousie moved from her beloved Chicago, to Granite Farms in 2012, to spend her final years close to her family. She just recently celebrated her 95th birthday.
Lousie was born in Laurel Mississippi and was the youngest child of her parents, the late Gertie Perryman Thigpen and James Douglas Thigpen. She was predeceased by her brother James and her dear sister Gettie.
Lousie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Dillard University in New Orleans Louisiana, and a Master's In education from Indiana University. Through a friend of her mother's, Louise met her future husband, Robert King. After their wedding, Robert took a job in Chicago and the new couple made their home there. Louise applied for a teaching position with the Chicago school district educating first and second graders for 38 years until her retirement. After Robert's passing in 1991, she enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Lousie was an active, devoted, and longtime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Chicago.
Mourning her loss are her beloved niece, Laura Ellis of Media, her nephews Lawrence (Rita) Ellis of Denver, CO, Leonard (Esther) Ellis of Glen Mills, PA and Lowell (Lee) Ellis of Perth, Australia. Also survived by her much loved stepdaughter, Barbara King of Chicago, a grandson, and great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family, with Lousie being laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions in Louise's name to Dillard University, 2601 Gentilly Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana 70122.
