Bertha M. Stafford, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, age 85, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Bertha was born on October 14, 1940, in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She attended Hooper Renwick School and grew up in the church, beginning her spiritual journey at Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined her close friend and Pastor, Joanne Malone, in fellowship and continued her walk of faith. Bertha created a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, shopping, eating, and cooking. One of her favorite pastimes was relaxing in her recliner while watching her beloved game shows and soap operas. She loved the color red, which reflected her vibrant personality, bold spirit, and passion for life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert J. Stafford, Sr., whom she wed in 1976; her son, Kenneth (Big Tate) Cain; her parents, Julia and James Maddox; and her siblings Cora, Mary Ann, James, Donald, Dorothy, and Lonnie. Bertha leaves to cherish her memory of her sons Timothy Cain, Kelvin Cain, Jonathan Cain, Joseph Cain (Cathy), and Robert Stafford, Jr.; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her bonus children Toni Hilton, Carla Stafford, and Patrick Stafford. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia Jackson and Barbara Caldwell (Charles), her goddaughter Gay Wilson, and her god sister Della Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Bertha will be remembered for her unwavering love, joyful spirit, and the light she brought to everyone who knew her.
A Funeral Service Honoring the Life of Bertha will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 1:00PM at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. Dr. Joeann Malone officiating. Interment will follow at East Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 16th from 3:00PM-5:00PM.
