Huey Stafford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Hammond on Nov. 15, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Huey, age 89, went to his heavenly home on Friday, November 14, 2025. He accepted Christ as a child and dedicated his life to being a student of The Word of God and a faithful teacher of the Scriptures. He was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Northside Baptist Church and Amite Baptist Church in Denham Springs, LA. Huey was a native of the town of Livingston, in Livingston Parish, and a long-time resident of Denham Springs, LA. Huey was a graduate of Doyle High School and upon graduation he joined the Air Force. Upon completion of boot camp, Huey married the love of his life, Ida Mae Hutchinson, (his pumpkin head), and they lived and loved together for 69 ½ years. He went on to serve 4 years with a 1-year deployment to Korea. Huey was an active participant in his community, serving on the United Way Council for Livingston Parish, serving as the vice-president of the Livingston Parish Economic Council for development, and later as the President for the council. He also served as the President of the Denham Springs Chamber of Commerce. Huey worked his way up through the ranks of Gulf States Utilities and retired as the superintendent of the Denham Springs office with 35 years of service. Huey was a faithful husband and dad who loved to fish, go to his camp, and spend time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Huey loved being with family and friends, laughing and enjoying time together. Huey was always considering others and how he could bless them. He was always slow to speak and considered how his actions would affect others. Huey was devout in his Chirstian beliefs, studied, and taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing was more important than his obedience to his Savior Jesus Christ.
Huey is survived by his sons, Larry Stafford (Annette), and Blaine Stafford (Tedra); sister, Yvonne Stafford Addison; sister-in-law, Judy Salassi Stafford; grandchildren, Jerica Stafford Baker (Derek), Joshua D. Stafford (Amanda), and Nathanael Stafford; great-grandchildren, Huey Leon Baker, Elaina Faith Baker, and Mya Isabelle Baker.
Huey is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Ida Mae Hutchinson Stafford; parents, Solon and Gladys McDonald Stafford; grandparents, Ode and Sally Stafford and Charles and Allie McDonald; brothers, Carl Stafford, and Lonnie Stafford; and sisters, Evelyn Stafford Cambre, Edna Stafford Cambre.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Blood River Baptist Church.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Blaine Stafford will officiate with interment to follow in Blood River Baptist Church Cemetery.
