Obituary Bertie Kay Nielson
Bertie Kay Nielson, 85, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at her home in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Bertie was born May 26, 1940 in Electric City, Washington, the daughter of Jay Edward and Elsa Salter Baker.
The family moved to Pocatello, Idaho where Bertie attended schools, graduating from Pocatello High School.
Bertie married Melvin Keith Nielson in Elko, Nevada.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bertie worked for the Blackfoot school district as a secretary at Groveland Elementary, the 6th grade school and Blackfoot High School. She retired in 2004.
She enjoyed spending time at the cabin in Island Park. She loved to garden and care for her flowers, sewing, knitting and making quilts. She was a great cook and made her own candy. She loved to care for her dogs, Boots and Taco.
Bertie is survived by her sons, Jerry (Merri) Nielson of Blackfoot, Terry Nielson of Utah and Korey (Alison) Nielson of Florida; siblings Donna Amen and Randy Baker; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild due in May.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Keith Nielson and her parents, Jay and Elsa Baker, and siblings Gary Baker and Judy Frazier.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Grove City Cemetery.
