Brenda Kauer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hawker Funeral Home - Blackfoot on Feb. 28, 2026.
Brenda Lee Kauer was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on October 31, 1942 to Ralph and Ruth Hatch. She was the oldest of four children. She grew up running around barefoot with cousins and making dolls with her sister. Brenda graduated from Snake River High School and attended Ricks College where she studied Art. While at Ricks College, she met Guy Kauer. They were married in Blackfoot, Idaho and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. From this union, 6 beautiful babies were born. Years later, as life sometimes goes, Brenda and Guy divorced. Brenda never remarried.

Brenda had many talents. She was an amazing gardener, seamstress and cook. She loved all types of flowers and plants. Some of her favorites included hollyhock, lilac, irises, petunias, cacti and zinnia. Her children recall that she could make "scorched ground look like the garden of Eden." Many times during visits, they would take a "tour de plants" with her.

Brenda was also a talented seamstress and could sew anything. She created many beloved family heirlooms, including; prom dresses, wedding dresses, and senior blankets. Once she made two wedding dresses in one week. You could pick any pattern and she would sew it to perfection. She sewed all kinds of dolls and toys for birthdays and holidays.

Brenda Lee was an amazing cook. She made 7 loaves of bread every week as a young mother. She made the best Sunday roast, chicken noodle soup, and ham. Her cooking didn't just fill stomachs, it healed hearts.

She was a life long dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a single mother, she prepared and sent 3 sons on missions to Brazil, Colorado, and D.C. She loved attending blessings and baptisms, going to the temple and serving others. Brenda served as a compassionate service leader for the Blackfoot 3rd ward for many years. She always wanted to serve.

Brenda excelled at making people feel special. She was welcoming to people from all walks of life. She never expected anyone to be more than they were. She was always there to lend a hand. Whether it was with a packet of seeds, a key lime pie, or a laugh.

Brenda is survived by six children; Cammy Montgomery (Kevin Montgomery) of Florida, Heidi Wharff of Wyoming, Justin Kauer of Idaho, Natalie Kauer of Idaho, Casey Kauer (Febee Icard Kauer) of Utah, and Lee Kauer of Idaho. She also has 15 grandchildren; TrisAnn Perry, Charles Bryan Mills, Joshua Montgomery, Michael Montgomery, Tyler Montgomery, Garrett Wharff, Lindsie Wharff, Christian Kauer, Justin Kauer Jr, Isaiah Kauer, Carly Kauer, Taylor Kauer, Spencer Kauer, Sophie Kauer, London Kauer, and 8 great grandchildren.

We are all heartbroken at losing our loving mother. "We'll miss her smile," but we find joy in the knowledge that we will see her again. She will be greatly missed. We love you mom, you're #1. All others are #2 or lower.

Funeral services will be held at the Blackfoot 14th Ward, 900 Riverton Road, Blackfoot, Idaho on Tuesday March 3rd. The viewing will be at 10 am, followed by funeral services at 11. Graveside service will be held at Moreland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Brenda Kauer burial fund at Hawker Funeral Home.
