Bertram Rowe Henry "Bert" of Knoxville, TN passed away surrounded by his family on April 5, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on May 7, 1941.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Herbert and Mary Ellen Henry and his brother Dr. Wayne Henry.
Bertram graduated from Louisiana State University as an undergraduate and then on June 3, 1967, he also received his Doctor of Medicine diploma from LSU. He was a diehard LSU tiger. He joined the Air Force on September 29, 1971, and was stationed at USAF Hospital in Elmendorf AFB, Alaska for 2 years.
Dr. Henry was the second neurologist in Knoxville and practiced medicine for 32 years. He loved his profession and worked tirelessly to help as many people as he could. Bert was a Christ Follower and faithfully attended Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian church. He always prioritized scripture, study and prayer.
His marriage was the definition of selflessness as he consistently tried to prioritize her needs. As a father he modeled stability, hard work, and an earnest desire to do what was right. Bert had time for everyone, and had a special way to make each person he encountered feel special and valued. A friend recently made this comment about him, "Bert was a true Southern Gentleman, very smart, yet always very gracious and genteel."
Bert is survived by his adoring wife, Cathy; his three loving children, Amanda Henry, Blake Henry and Lauren Karnitz; his five grandchildren, Pearl Thompson, Raleigh and Aubrey Henry and Evan and Leo Karniz; and his three nieces, Robin (Henry) Powell, Ann (Henry) Matthews and Susan (Henry) Ellis.
