Deborah Anne Chalmers Torbett, 71, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 23, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She spent her final week surrounded by the love and comfort of family and friends. Her deep love for them carried her through the most challenging moments of her illness. As her family grieves her passing, they also rejoice in knowing she is now free from pain and will soon be reunited with her mother, father, and brother. Deborah was born on November 10, 1953, in Knoxville, TN. She was a debutante, a cherished friend, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a protector, a listening ear, and a source of humor and joy. She graduated from Bearden High School and attended Sullins College in Bristol. Deborah worked at Lange Animal Hospital for nearly three decades, devoted to her passion and love for animals. Her spirit will forever echo in the lives she touched-both human and animal alike. She appreciated the simple joys in life: the Gulf Coast beaches, sunrises, the sand between her toes, and time spent with loved ones-often with a glass of wine in hand. She loved quiet moments on the patio, reading with a dog in her lap. Deborah was deeply loved. Her laughter, encouragement, inspiration, and guidance brought joy to those around her. She filled our hearts with compassion and grace-and always shared a radiant smile that will not be forgotten. She is preceded in death by her brother, Scott Chalmers; her mother, Wilma Watley Chalmers; and her father, Joe Chalmers. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Torbett; daughter, Kristin Dycus; son, Scott Torbett; and five grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service honoring Deborah Anne Chalmers Torbett will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 4401 Sutherland Dr., Knoxville, TN 37919. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Deborah's memory to Young-Williams Animal Center: https://www.young-williams.org/support/one-time/ Online condolences may be extended at www.rosefuneraltn.com You brought light to so many.
