Bert graduated from Audubon MN and joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam war.
He met the love of his life, Lynda in Blanchard, OK while he was working for Aerial Contractors. They were united in marriage on 08/08/1971 and settled down in West Fargo ND. They had 3 children, Michael, Kristina and Matthew.
His career of being a lineman at Cass County Electric started on November 28th 1973 and officially retired on March 13th 2009. Bert was a very dedicated lineman and received "Lineman of the year" during his time there. Being a lineman at Cass County Electric was something he was very proud of. He met a lot of his close friends while working there.
Bert was a lifetime member of the West Fargo VFW Post 7564 and served as the Commander from 2008-2009 and also seam squirrel from 2009-2010.
Bert was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren with 1 great granddaughter on the way that he was determined to meet.
Bert's health started to decline but he was able to stay in close contact with his friends and enjoyed everyone that would sit down and chit chat with him.
Bert is survived by his wife Lynda Hanson of West Fargo, ND; children, Michael (DeAnn) Hanson of Mandan, ND, Kristina (Jason) Ertelt of Harwood, ND, and Matthew Hanson of West Fargo, ND. 12 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. His sisters Laurie (Steve) Knutson of Hawley, MN and Carol (Russel) Okeson of Detroit Lakes, MN. As well as many close cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Interment: Fargo National Cemetery, rural Harwood, ND.
