Bessie Rose Workman Chaffin, age 85, of Ashland, Kentucky, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on October 1, 2025, at Kings Daughters Medical Center, with fond memories of her family on her mind.
Bessie was born at home in Waylon Kentucky, just as the leaves were beginning to change on September 7, 1940.
She was the blessing of the late Andrew Jackson and Charity Rose Gentry Workman. Bessie married the late Charles Edison Chaffin Sr and began her family. In 1978 Charles passed leaving her a widow at the young age of 38. Bessie raised their young children and put herself through nursing school as a single mother. She worked tirelessly to support them through the years taking care of those in her community as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Although tough at times, it was a life that brought Bessie much joy
Bessie was a devoted woman of Christ, who loved to spending time with her church family at Christian Fellowship Church. Her faith was unwavering and strong. Bessie loved the excitement of a good baseball game and spent many hours watching the Reds steal those bases and hit homeruns. Although her roots were planted in Kentucky she couldn't help but love those Cincinnati Reds.
Bessie lived a life full of joy, devotion, and love for her family and friends. She was blessed with 85 years of cherished memories. She was loved beyond measure. Bessie was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend. She will live in stories, memories, and cherished moments for many years to come.
Bessie leaves behind her three devoted children, Rose Ann Chaffin, Charlene Dawn McCarty, and Charles Edison Chaffin, all of Ashland, Kentucky, twelve precious grandchildren, Terry M. McCarty II, Jeffery Lee Baise, Jusin Andrew Baise, Jesse Ryan Baise, Meagan Lee McCarty, Shianne Marshall, Marissa Rose Jackson and her husband Shawn,Grant Chaffin, Rachel Olivia Chaffin, Hanna Rose Chaffin, Arianna Marie Chaffin, and Daja Marley Chaffin, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and one sister Marie Morrison. Also surviving host of extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and late husband Charles, Bessie is enjoying a Heavenly reunion with her brothers, James Monre Workman and his wife Mabel, William Jessie Workman and his wife Ruth, Rexall Eugene Workman and his wife Dorothy, and Joseph Franklin Workman and his wife Hazel, three sisters Faye Smith and her husband Sam, Pearl May Workman, Ruby Jean Workman, and one brother-in-law Estil Morrison.
