Mrs. Boyd S. Chipman, born Bessie Jane Boyd, passed away from this life on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Born January 1, 1934, in Galveston, Jane was a lifelong resident of the Galveston County area. She was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church, formerly a member of Seaside Baptist Church in Jamaica Beach.
Family was always a priority for Jane. First and foremost, she was a wife, Mama, and Mimi. Each of her 3 children, 8 grandkids, and 11 "great grands", including spouses, were touched by her abundant love for them, open ear and wise words of encouragement. Everyone was always welcome at Mimi and Papa's!
Jane was the youngest of 3 and the only girl. She grew up in a boy world in Galveston where there were often fish or ducks in the kitchen sink. She became a beautiful young woman who would eventually be introduced to her older brother Gene's fishing buddy, Boyd. Boyd knew how special she was and quickly proposed and they were married.
As her children grew up, she started to focus on a career of her own. Her first taste of business was early in their marriage when she was responsible for the family shrimping business. She was then introduced to the credit union world when she was on the Supervisory Committee for the Electrical Workers FCU, and then advanced to become the manager of City of Galveston Employees FCU. She was instrumental in its successful growth and becoming what is now Coastal Community FCU. She was close to retiring when an opportunity led her to manage accounting for Yagas, a thriving new company. She attempted retirement again. However, when Boyd took a position in Cairo Egypt, she was called to use her business skills again as the Kitchen manager that fed over 100 local employees and as the contract close out manager for the large international electrical company.
Even with all the busy career work, Jane still had her roots in being raised around hunting and fishing. Jane and Boyd were the closest partners in all these activities, a true husband and wife sportsman team! They had the same lifelong hunting & fishing friends. She loved deer hunting with Boyd and all the family near Doss, Texas, which was known to all the family as the "Chipman Winter Wonderland" for over 42 years.
Jane loved her dogs, the fishpond and pier at their Santa Fe home, sewing, making deer sausage & jerky, as well as tending to her roses. We all love Mimi's favorites: chocolate chip cookies, goose pies, stuffed jalapenos, deer sausage balls and most of all her Coney Island hot dogs.
A very special thank you to the staff at La Vita Bella and Spectrum Hospice for all their loving care.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Boyd Stean Chipman, Jr.; her father. Leslie Gene Boyd; her mother. Bessie Mae (Orr) Boyd; her brothers. Leslie Gene Boyd and John Henry Boyd; and her son-in-law, Chet Navarre.
