Bessie Jean Cline Rodgers Shaw
September 13, 1930 – September, 2024
Pasco, Washington – Bessie Jean Shaw, 93, passed away September 6th 2024 in Pasco, WA surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 13, 1930 to Bessie Pierson and Remo Sterling Cline in Salt Lake City, Utah.
On June 10, 1948 Jean married Jerry George Rodgers in Richland, WA. One year later they were sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS temple located in Salt Lake City Utah.
Jean and Jerry lived in Richland Washington until 1954 when they bought their new home in Pasco Washington where she resided for the rest of her life. Jean worked for Hughes Air West and then went on to work at Columbia Basin Community College. Her husband Jerry Rodgers passed away on March 11, 1982. Jean married Bernard Shaw in 1985 in Pasco, WA. Jean is survived by 5 of her 6 children. Daughters Renee Bailey of American Fork, Utah and Paula (David) Church of Edmonds, WA. Sons, Russell (Patricia) Rodgers of Mesa, AZ, Jerry (Paris) Rodgers of Kennewick, WA, Bryan (Andrea) Rodgers of Phoenix, AZ and the late Daryl (Julia) Rodgers of Orem, Utah. Jean Shaw is survived by 22 grandkid and over 70 great grandkids and 1 great-great grandchild. In her second marriage to Bernard Shaw, Jean had stepchildren Glen and his late wife (Linnea) Shaw of St. George, Utah and Sharon ( ) McDonald. She had 2 step-children, and many grandchildren.
Jean was a very beloved member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. She served in numerous church callings and donated much of her time to serving others in her community. While married to Jerry Rodgers she supported his efforts in helping over 60 boys reach their Eagle scout rank. Her support and sacrifice in picking up the slack at home made that achievement possible. She immensely enjoyed gardening and was an avid member of one of the local gardening clubs. One of the things Jean enjoyed most was putting together a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers out of her garden and arranging a lovely bouquet to share on the pulpit with the congregation. Jean delighted in doing good and was a great example of honesty, virtue and integrity throughout her life. Over the span of 30 years, she enjoyed making bridal bouquets and helping many young brides in the community have beautiful flowers for their weddings. When the Columbia River Temple was built, she served as a temple worker until her health made it difficult to fulfill the time commitments. Jean spent many winters over the past several years staying with family in Arizona. While there she enjoyed attending Christmas activities with children and grandchildren.
