Bessie Darensbourg St. Amant
December 9, 1934 - December 3, 2025
Bessie Darensbourg St. Amant, who was affectionately known as "Nanny" peacefully departed this life at the age of 90 years of age on Wednesday December 3, 2025, at her residence in Lucy, LA. Bessie was born to the union of Arthur and Beatrice Mitchell Darensbourg on December 9, 1934. She was a native and lifelong resident of Lucy, LA. She was married to the late Marshall St. Amant, Jr. and she was the mother of three children: Cornelious (Terri), Trina (Carl) and Marshall, III (Nishla).
Bessie was a 1954 graduate of Second Ward High School. She furthered education by attending Dillard University and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southern University. She was an educator in the St. John the Baptist School System for 30 years. She enjoyed cooking for holidays and her trips to the casino. Her great-grandchildren, Ace and Gem, brought joy to her heart. Bessie was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Church until her health started to decline. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught religion classes for years.
Bessie lived a long life and she enjoyed life to the fullest. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children; Cornelious (Terri), Trina (Carl) and Marshall, III(Nishla); grandchildren, Diamond Bright, Darion Bright, Cornelius "C.J." Darensbourg, Cameron Darensbourg, Carvente' Favorite, Marshall St. Amant, IV and Jackson St. Amant; great grandchildren, Ace and Gem Adams; Godchildren, Robin Shephard, Glenn Davis, Jr. and Larry Joseph and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Beatrice Mitchell Darensbourg; brothers, Oscar, Clarence, Alfred, Fellman, Sterline, Norman and Nuffy Darensbourg and sister, Gladys Darensbourg Davis.
Relatives and friends of the family, Priest and Parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 LA-18, Edgard, LA 70049. Reverend Robustiano Morgia, Celebrant. Visitation 8:00am until the time of Mass at the above-named Church. Interment St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Edgard, LA 70049.
