Betty J. Austin, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 2, 1938, in Hornell, NY, she was the daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Fisk) Bender. She attended Painted Post High School. She married the love of her life, Frank V. Austin, who sadly predeceased her in 1972.
Betty dedicated many years of service to the Campbell-Savona School District, first as a bus driver and later retiring as a custodian.
A woman of strength, resilience, and honesty, Betty will be remembered for her love of hunting and fishing, her fierce devotion to her family, and her no-nonsense attitude. She raised her five children on her own after the untimely passing of her husband, always speaking her mind with clarity and purpose. A proud and lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, she brought passion and loyalty into everything she did.
Betty is survived by her children: Tammy (Gary) Saunders of Columbia Crossroads, PA; Beverly Austin of Addison; and Betty Marie Austin of Elmira. She is also survived by her sisters: Joan Share of Fort Myers, FL, and Marjorie Austin of Savona; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons: James V. Austin and John G. Austin, as well as her great-grandson, Noah Mann.
Betty will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Addison Rural Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Flint Funeral Home in Addison. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Betty J. Austin (Bender), please visit our Tree Store.
