Betty Jean Trehern Baur, age 90, of Greenville, South Carolina, was called home to the Lord on January 18, 2026.
Born on August 5, 1935, in
Pensacola, Florida, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Eugene "Gene" Baur; her parents, Lawrence and Tennie Lee Trehern; her great-granddaughter, Abigail Hansen; and her dog, Scamper, who arguably was her favorite child!
She is survived by her five children, Barbara Baur Hansen (Ron) of
Anderson, SC, Mike Baur (Laura) of
Simpsonville, SC, Butch Baur (Rhonda) of
Duluth, GA, Patrick Baur (Vicki) of
Marietta, GA, and Sharon Baur Hill (Terry) of
Anderson, SC. She also leaves behind eighteen cherished grandchildren, Brent Hansen (Kohan), Evan Hansen, John Thomas "JT" Hansen (Emily), April Davis (Greg), Ashley Sellers (Tripp), Ben Baur (Allison), Will Baur (Jeanne), Blake Baur (Danielle), Zach Baur (Hannah), Carson Baur, Tyler Cromey (Lydia), Haleigh Cromey (Jimmy), Hannah Meadows (Logan), Matthew Baur, Olivia Cleveland (Josh), Natalie Hill, Adam Hill (Erin), and Amelia Hill; nineteen great-grandchildren, with four more on the way; and her dear friend and devoted caregiver, Rhonda Weaver.
Betty worked for many years as a legal secretary, but her greatest and most cherished vocation was that of mother and grandmother. Better known to her family as "Nanny," she was a constant source of love, encouragement, and wisdom. Betty was also a two-time cancer survivor whose strength and faith carried her through many trials. She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Simpsonville, where she previously served as a Eucharistic Minister. She had a strong and deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, which remained a guiding presence throughout her life. Betty was known for her devout faith, her quick wit, and her steadfast belief in her family. She often said that all of her children and grandchildren were "geniuses," firmly believing that if you tell a child they are smart, they will be.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday January 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Interment will be at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in
