Betty Jean Blue, 96, of Union City, Michigan, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. She was born on April 22, 1929, in Petersburg, Illinois, the daughter of Herman L. Pratt and Emma H. (Beckerman) Pratt.
At an early age, the family moved to Chicago, IL where Betty graduated from Fenger High School. She worked as a dental hygienist and an accomplished artist. Betty married the love of her life, August Blue, and the two made their home alongside his Navy duty assignments. In 1965, their son, John was born while the family stationed in Panama. The Blue's returned to Chicago where Betty enjoyed raising her son and time spent with friends. In 1972, August and Betty moved to Union City, MI, where Betty was active displaying her artwork, selling Avon, helping with the school and raising her family. She was well known in the Union City community and she also considered her neighbors her extended family.
Betty is survived by her son, John (Sherri) Blue of Portage, MI; grandsons, Michael Blue of Portage, MI, Alec (Gabby) Blue of Alto, MI; and brother-in-law, Kenneth (Elaine) Blue of Augusta, MI. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman L. Pratt; mother, Emma H. Pratt; husband, August "Bud" Blue; and sister, Bonnie J. Pratt.
A private family interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
