Betty Marie Chapman, 92, of Ottumwa, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Gospel Light Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service and take place at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa. A brief memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM at Shaul Cemetery.
Betty was born March 11, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa to Herbert and Ester (Nylen) Box. She was married to her first husband in 1982, in Cedar Rapids. She later married Charles H. Chapman Jr on February 14, 2015. Betty was a teacher in both public and Christian schools for thirty-five years. She also taught piano lessons and tutored in English grammar. After her teaching career, she was a people greeter at the Northeast Wal-Mart for seven and half years. Her interests were reading, traveling, card stamping, music teaching, her toy poodles; Jacques, Sparky, and Spunky, and serving her lord Jesus Christ. She was a loving and faithful wife. She was a long-time member Gospel Light Baptist Church.
She is survived by her nieces, nephews, and many of her friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Charles Chapman, her parents, and her siblings.
Memorials may be directed to Gospel Light Baptist Church located at 305 2nd Ave Marion, Iowa.
