Frederick Ralph Chapman, 77, formerly of Valdosta, GA passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 in Albany, GA

Born in Jacksonville, FL, on July 7, 1948, and raised in Tampa, Fred was the son of Ralph and Elizabeth Chapman and grew up alongside his sister, Robin. Fred attended University of Florida before transferring to Valdosta State College, where he met the lovely Ann Barfield. The best decision of his life was asking Ann to marry him. She said “yes,” and they were wed on October 17,1970. They meant it when they vowed “until death do us part.” Their marriage remained a beautiful picture of love and commitment through the inevitable challenges life brings.

Fred was a grill master, an avid reader, and a lifelong Florida Gator fan. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and coached many youth teams through the years. His primary aim was always for kids to have fun, learn the game, and experience the joy of being part of a team. Intelligent and quick-witted, Fred relished lively, sarcastic banter that was typically obnoxious but almost always harmless. If it were possible, he would surely pen an irreverent response to this obituary. Fred is survived by his wife, Ann; their son, Carter Sean Chapman; their daughter, Holly Chapman Strickland; and seven grandchildren.

Those desiring may make memorials in memory of Frederick Ralph Chapman to The Dementia Society of America, P. O. Box 6000, Doyleston, PA, 18901.
