Betty Jo Bauer Cook died peacefully in her sleep at home on December 20, 2023 at the age of 83 from causes incident to age.

Betty Jo was born on March 9, 1940, in Cedar City, Utah to Myrtle and Joseph Waldorf Bauer. She grew up in Cedar City and graduated from Cedar High School in 1958. After earning an associate degree from the College of Southern Utah (SUU) in 1960, she transferred to Utah State University, the University of Utah and finally Weber State University majoring in Education and Library Services.

On December 28, 1960, she married her eternal sweetheart Noal K. Cook in the St. George Temple. In 1967, they moved to West Point, Utah where they raised their children. They were blessed with four sons: Christopher, Carter, Curtis, and Cyle.

Betty Jo was meticulous, organized, and had a very sharp mind. She was the editor of her high school yearbook when she was a senior and, also the editor of SUU’s yearbook one year. She loved the national parks and monuments of Southwest Utah and worked summers in Zion and Cedar Breaks as a teenager. In her later years, a favorite place she and Noal frequented was Ruby’s Inn at Bryce Canyon.

After serving as a tutor at Doxey Elementary and as the school librarian at West Point Elementary, she and Noal retired to St. George, Utah.

She made and nurtured life-long friendships. She loved to read and particularly relished church history books. She delighted in washing and ironing, and her clothes were always pressed to perfection! She loved watching old Westerns and could quote most of them by heart. She and Noal even visited some of the sets where the Westerns were filmed.

She had a firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She served in many callings and as an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple. For her, a highlight was serving four missions with Noal: the St. George Temple Visitor Center Mission; Nauvoo, Illinois Mission; Washington, D.C. Temple Mission; then back to the Nauvoo, Illinois Mission. In her words, “We loved them immensely.”

Betty Jo is preceded in death by her parents, sister Marsha, sons Christopher and Cyle. She is survived by her loving husband, Noal; two children: Carter (Julia), Curtis (Erica); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings: Christie Jensen, Lana (Bob) Fredrickson, Samuel (Debbie) Bauer, Debra (Steve) Hardison.

The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy House of Park Lane Assisted Living and Inspiration Hospice for their compassion and expert care.
