Betty Zigmond – Dakin, Charo Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Zigmond-Dakin-Charo, who left us peacefully on June 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on January 8, 1934, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to all who knew her.
Betty was a woman who brought light and joy into every room she entered. Her family was the center of her universe, and she dedicated her life to the people she loved. As a mother of six, grandmother to many, and great-grandmother to a growing tribe, her legacy lives on through the generations she helped nurture. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family, whether it was a family gathering, a holiday meal, or just a quiet afternoon spent sharing stories.
Her passions were as varied and vibrant as the life she lived. A lover of country western music, Betty could often be found listening to her favorite tunes or dancing joyfully to the beat at a local dance hall. Gardening was another of her passions, and she took great pride in nurturing her flowers and plants, which, much like her, thrived with care and attention.
For many years Betty worked for the San Antonio Independent School District helping the school Nurses facilitate their daily activities. Betty also worked as an administrative assistant for the district where her attention to detail and dedicated work ethic was invaluable.
In all she did, Betty embodied a spirit of joy, resilience, and kindness. She had a wonderful attitude and lived her life with a smile, always focusing on the positives and lifting those around her. Her warmth and infectious laugh will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Betty is survived by her Spouse, Frank Charo, Brother, John Leinweber, Jr. six children, Connie Benfer, Brenda Blount, Shelly Zigmond, Alfred Zigmond, Cheryl Dumoit and John Zigmond. Betty had numerous grandchildren, (10) and great-grandchildren, (15) all of whom were lucky to call her mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by Spouses, Alfred Zigmond and Gene Dakin.
A celebration of her life on June 12, 2025, with visitation starting @5:00 pm-8:00 pm with Rosary to follow at Dellcrest funeral home. Burial will be held on June 13th, 2025, at 10:00 am at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church located in Saint Hedwig, Texas. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her memory and share in the joy she spread to so many.
Though she may no longer be with us, the love and warmth that Betty shared will continue to echo in our hearts for generations to come.
Rest in peace, Betty. You will forever be loved and missed.
