Betty Duis

Betty Alice Duis, 95, of Concord, California, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026.

Betty was born in 1931 on a farm in South Dakota and later moved to Illinois as a young girl. She met her high school sweetheart, Jack Howard Duis, and the two were married in 1953. They shared a loving life together until Jack's passing in 1994.

Betty pursued her passion for caring for others by attending nursing school and earning her Registered Nurse (RN) license from St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. She dedicated 50 years to a remarkable career in nursing, working in hospitals, nursing homes, and doctors' offices, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and skill.

In 1971, Betty and Jack moved to sunny California and became devoted members of First Lutheran Church in Concord. For 55 years, Betty was an active and cherished member of the church community. She sang in the choir, played handbells, and served in many roles, always giving her time and heart to others.

Betty had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the piano. She was also passionate about helping others through volunteer work, including her service with Meals on Wheels. Above all, she treasured time with her family, especially caring for her four grandchildren. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed reading and watching tennis and basketball.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Steven (Melanie), Mary (Terry), and Julie (Robert); her grandchildren: Tyler, Kyle (Riley), Jack, and Riley; and her great-granddaughter, Willow.
