Betty Graffy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services LTD. on Oct. 3, 2022.
Elizabeth "Betty" Graffy (née Salzman), 84, long-time resident of Hanover Park, recently of Bartlett, was the beloved wife of 62 years to the recently departed Charles "Chick" Graffy; devoted mother of Don (Martha), Jeanne (Guy) Grassmick, Mike, Joyce (Greg) Brown, Ken (Susan), and Liz (Jim) Kopitke; cherished grandmother of nine; loving great-grandmother of six; dear sister of John Salzman and Don (Roberta) Salzman. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Bernard and Winifred and sister Joan (Joseph) Ricciuti. Betty grew up in the St. Leo Parish of Chicago, graduated from Mercy High School, and attended Saint Xavier University.
Betty was a homemaker devoted to the care and education of her six children, volunteering extensively at their schools and church. She enjoyed chocolate, bowling leagues with friends, weekly or daily mass, and traveling with Chick to England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Baltics, Greece, the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii. Her great joys were meeting and talking with people and watching her children and grandchildren pursue their interests and raise their families.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5 at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg. The funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 6 at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, Schaumburg, followed by private burial at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to ILRC of the Oaks at Bartlett, 827 Carillon Drive, Bartlett, IL 60103, to benefit the staff who so gently and kindly cared for Betty over the last year.
