Betty Jo Gore Gurganus, age 90, of Clarendon, NC, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Angel House in Whiteville, NC. Born on March 5, 1934 in Columbus County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Ressie Ann Hinson and J. Thurman Gore. She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart Vernon B. Gurganus and a half sister, Mary Gore Rabon.
Betty Jo was a life-long member of Bethel Methodist Church where she loved singing in the choir. She also served as Sunday School and Bible School Director, UMYF adult counselor and 4-H Club leader. She loved reading mysteries, collecting milk glass, Duke Basketball, working in her yard and keeping the three grandchildren for the summer at Lake Waccamaw.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa G. Triplett (Bill) and son Kent Gurganus (Sheryl) both of Clarendon; three grandchildren – Jennifer Inman Bratt (Will) of Elizabethtown, Ed Triplett (Ana Calil) of Silvis, Illinois, and John Triplett (Katie) of Mount Pleasant, SC; and six great-grandchildren – Maeve, Adeline, Serena, Aurora, J.W. and Silas Idris Triplett.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 27, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Bethel Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
Since Betty Jo loved flowers, if convenient please wear something floral/flowery to the funeral and/or visitation.
If preferred, memorials may be made to Bethel Methodist Church, 8546 Lebanon Church Road, Clarendon, NC 28432.
