James Anthony Gurganus

Mr. James Anthony Gurganus, 62, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 7, at 2PM, in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Greenville. The family will visit before the service beginning at 1PM. Burial will be private.
James was born in Hawaii. He spent his career as a corrections officer with the NC Division of Prisons. He served in the U. S. Army as a Ranger, excelling, with honors, in the areas of Parachute Badge, Rifle M-16 Marksman, Hard Grenade Expert, and 81mm Mortar Marksman. He served with Company A of the 505th Infantry.
James was an expert in martial arts and loved teaching it. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family. He was a dedicated family man, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had a big heart; always willing to give a helping hand in times of trouble. He showed kindness, and had a hard work ethic.
James was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Reuben and Nancy Gurganus; maternal grandmother, Leandra Mercedes Vallejo; and grandfather, Antonio Quionnes Sanchez.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Gurganus; a daughter, Chelsea Gurganus Rouse and husband, Cody, and their son, Aiden;
a son, Bryce Gurganus and fianceé, Hannah Brown, and their daughters, Audrey and Harper; a daughter, Kristian Guadeillo;
his father, James Gurganus and wife, Zarina; his mother, Antonia Martin; and his sisters, Sophie Harrison, and Christ Trippeer.
