Betty Lorraine Howard, a cherished pillar of her family, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 87. Born on September 12, 1937, in White Pine, TN, Betty was a beacon of love and creativity, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Betty's early years in White Pine laid the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures. She was the heart of her family, a role she embraced with every fiber of her being. Betty's siblings, Bobby and Clarence Turner, along with her sisters Polly Long, Rita Hughes, and Wanda Edwards. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Samuel Turner, Rufus "Hoot" Turner, and Junior Turner, her sister Imogene Ashley, and her beloved parents, Goldie Mae Hickey and Thomas Turner.
Betty's legacy is carried on by her loving daughters, Brenda F. Hipps and Sharon R. Rines, who will forever cherish the wisdom and warmth their mother imparted. Her grandchildren, Julia L. Rines and Dillan Rines, will miss their grandmother's unwavering support and the stories she shared. Betty's love for her family was her guiding light, and it shone brightly in every action and word.
A woman of many interests, Betty found joy in the simple things. She was an avid solver of word search puzzles, a pastime that reflected her analytical mind and love for words. Her afternoons were often spent engrossed in her favorite soap operas, her "stories," which provided a source of entertainment and conversation. Betty also took immense pride in her home, which she kept with meticulous care, organizing and beautifying her space with the touch of the creative spirit she was.
Those who knew Betty will remember her as a loving soul, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. Her analytical mind made her a thoughtful listener and advisor, while her creative flair added beauty to the world around her. Betty's love for her family and her home was evident in everything she did, and her presence will be deeply missed.
