Betty Humphries Hunt, age 94 of Ewing, Kentucky passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was born August 19, 1929, in Versailles, Kentucky to the late Ray Humphries, Sr and Hazel Gilkison Humphries. She was preceded in death by her husband Julian Hunt. They were married on December 23, 1947, and celebrated over 65 years of marriage.
To those fortunate to have known her, she will be remembered as a kind, loving, classy lady. She made hand-sewn quilts for her children and each grandchild received a quilt upon their graduation. Many babies were greeted into the world with one of her quilts.
During their early years, Julian and Betty operated Hunt’s Grocery in Fairview. Later Betty was employed by the Kentucky State Highway Department of Transportation and retired after 25 years of service.
Betty was a long time, faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Fairview where she served as adult Sunday School teacher for many years. Betty loved her Lord and her church family.
Betty is survived by her five children: Connie (David) Elkins of Terre Haute, Indiana; Jerry (Carol) Hunt of Carlisle, Kentucky; Vicki Watson of Ewing, Kentucky; Ricky Hunt of Sharpsburg, Kentucky; and Tracy (Kelly) Hunt of Ewing, Kentucky. Ten grandchildren: Crystal Sibert, Cybil George, Brian Hunt, Brandon Hunt, Julie Banks, Lindsay Moran, Jason Watson, Matthew Elkins, Jennifer Sauer, and Taylor Hunt; twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephew and cousins.
Proverbs 31:28 “…her children rise up and call her blessed” is an apt description of her children’s regard for her love and devotion to them.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Ray Humphries, Jr. and Lyla Lee Humphries, brother-in-law Rev. Roy Hunt, son-in-law Rickey Watson, and great-grandson Evan Banks.
