Waynesville, Betty Lamons, 96, whose remarkable journey began on November 1, 1928, in Hialeah, Florida, and gracefully concluded on April 11, 2025, at Haywood Lodge, leaves behind a legacy woven from the threads of love, devotion, and cherished memories. Born Betty Bowers, she navigated life with grace, embracing both joys and challenges.

She spent her early years in Hialeah and Coconut Grove, Florida. After a brief move with her family to New York, she married Robert (Bob) Lamons, whom she had met at the University of Miami, and returned to Florida settling in Miami and later, North Bay Village.

Betty's heart found its greatest expression through her family. She was a devoted wife, sharing an extraordinary 77 years with her beloved husband, who survives her. Together, they nurtured a family that blossomed under the warmth of her affection. She cherished her children, Lucy Cogdill (Bobby) and Robert Lamons Jr. (Lillian). Betty's grandchildren, Amy Spivey (Tarver), Matthew Cogdill (Laurel), Derek Lamons (Layda), and Jenesa Vivas (Alex), brought light to her life, as did her five great-grandchildren: Novalie Lamons, Henry Spivey, Asa Vivas, Reed Vivas, and Derek Lamons. She is also survived by many other relatives and great friends.

Throughout her life, Betty found joy in the simple pleasures; spending summer days in North Carolina filled her with a sense of peace and belonging. The family’s loved homestead, known affectionately as Red Ranch Hill, became a sanctuary where laughter and love resounded. Betty took delight in collecting shells while living near the beach in North Bay Village.

For many years, Betty attended the South Miami Methodist Church and later the Balsam Baptist Church, where she embraced her faith alongside her community.

With her passing, Betty Lamons joins those who left before her, reuniting with her father, Elzian Bowers, her mother, Dorothy Powell Bowers, and her sister, Barbara Bennett. The warmth of their embrace is felt through the echoes of her life, a testament to the love shared across generations.

Services for Betty will be held at a later date.
