Betty Layson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 3, 2025.
Beloved by all who's life she touched, Betty Littlefield Layson passed peacefully on December 1, 2025 at the age of 90 in Dahlonega, GA. Betty was born in Dahlonega on September 17, 1935 to Terry Sanford "Shine" and Annie Myrl "Boss" Littlefield.

Betty grew up in Dawson, GA and was educated in the Terrell County school system. She began her career in 1959 with John Deere in Chamblee, GA and moved with them to Conyers, GA in 1978 where she continued to grow with them in her over 26 years with the company. She took early retirement in 1986. Not one to sit around, she immediately went to work for the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. The position was for only 3 months but turned into another 11 year career. Even after leaving the Chamber, she continued to assist them with membership retention.

A woman of unshakeable faith, she was a member of Conyers First Methodist Church for many years and served the church in numerous roles including Lay Pastor and president of the Rebekah Circle. She also attended Walk to Emmaus. She later joined Dahlonega Methodist Church.

Betty loved her community and was involved in many volunteer roles including Meals on Wheels and the Olympic Committee that successfully brought the equestrian events to Rockdale County in 1996.

Battling COPD for many years, she moved into Dahlonega Assisted Living in 2021 to be close to her two sisters Sandy and Pud who did a wonderful job of watching over and protecting her in her final years.

A beautiful woman both inside and out, Betty was known for her infectious smile, sense of humor and kindness to everyone. She loved watching football, bridge, bible study, games and most of all spending time with her family. Of all her accomplishments she was most proud of her three sons and the men they grew to be.

Betty is survived by her son Terry (Stephanie), son Jimmy, son Steven (Courtney); Grandchildren Ryan (Sarah), Scott (Sarah), Sophia, Sam, Jane Gray, Tate and Ford; Great Grandchildren Violet, Ava Grace and Pruitt; sisters Sandy Littlefield, Pud English and brother-in-law Ben English and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom she loved very much.

As per her wishes she will be cremated and a graveside service will be held on Sunday December 21, 2pm at Mount Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega, GA. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the American Lung Association.
