James Layson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Oct. 1, 2025.
James Adam Layson James Adam Layson, 44, of Perry, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord with his family by his side. Born on August 27, 1981, he shared a special birthday bond with his father. He was the beloved son of Gerald and Emma Darlene (Adams) Layson of Perry. Adam is survived by his siblings, Kelly (Layson) Clark and her husband Calvin of Bonaire, Georgia; Christi (Wheeler) Evangelo and her husband Ryan of Perry, Georgia; and Patrick Layson and his wife Erin of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a proud uncle to his nieces, Cally Clark, Chloe Evangelo, Maggie Evangelo, and Olivia Evangelo, and nothing made him happier than being "Uncle Adam." He was welcomed into heaven by his grandparents, Grayson (GT) and Louise Adams of Macon, Georgia, and James and Sula Layson of Perry, Georgia; his great-uncle and aunt James and Pat Meaders; aunts and uncles Donna Middlebrooks, Dan Adams, Fred Bieber, and Jimmy Layson; and cousins David Middlebrooks and Ruth Marie Koske. Adam loved nothing in this world more than his family. He loved big and he loved forever. If he ever called you friend, or if he once told you he loved you, know that those feelings never faded. His heart held onto that love faithfully, all the way to the end. Though Adam innocently suffered through much of his life, he never complained. He was strong and courageous - our gentle giant - the kindest, most loving "kid" you could ever meet. He was also incredibly funny, with a quick wit and a gift for making people laugh. Adam's loves were easy to spot - and he loved them with his whole heart. Nothing topped his Power Rangers, a collection decades in the making and his proudest joy. He was a true football fan who could rattle off any stat you wanted to know. Saturdays meant UGA football and the Falcons, when his "Go Dawgs!" could shake the walls. He followed WWE wrestling faithfully all his life and never missed an episode of The Young and the Restless. He also loved watching The Waltons - so much so that as a boy he was affectionately nicknamed "John Boy." Monopoly nights were legendary, especially with his buddy Daniel Morris - games Daniel might have actually won if he'd only taken Adam's advice. His dogs, Rocky and JoJo, were his constant companions, and he never turned down good food - especially if red velvet cake was on the table. Adam was blessed with friends and caregivers who became family. His dear friend and caretaker, Daniel Morris, shared not only Monopoly games but a bond that enriched Adam's life. His cousins, Misty and Michael Chestnut, walked beside him with love and devotion, giving him opportunities he might never have experienced otherwise - even teaching a blind man to drive a tractor. His special caretaker for more than 10 years, Cotia Clark, held a beloved place in his heart, and he loved her dearly. The family also wishes to recognize his dialysis family at DaVita in Perry, where he spent 18 years and formed bonds that became like family, as well as his doctors, Dr. Ravi Shekerappa and Dr. Deep Adhikari, along with every nurse, friend, and caregiver who helped carry Adam through the challenges of his life with love. Adam's life was a living reminder of loyalty, laughter, and love without limits. Though his absence leaves an empty place, his true life has just begun. What was broken has been made perfect; he is home, whole, and healed - free at last, rejoicing in eternity, playing football like he always dreamed, held in the arms of the One who makes all things new. Goodnight, Adam. A celebration of Adam's life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Heights Baptist Church in Perry with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM at the church -a date that also marks his parents' 45th wedding anniversary. In honor of Adam's beloved Georgia Bulldogs, the family invites all who attend to wear red and black. With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
