Betty was born on the 12th day of December 1932 in Youngsport, Texas, to her parents Edward and Martha Elizabeth (Willingham) Tanner. God welcomed Home one of the great ones, Betty Aline Tanner joined her husband, Elmer Doyle Lindsey, in Heaven on September 4, 2025. Conventional wisdom has it that when one spouse passes, the marriage also ends. Mammaw, as so many of us were privileged to call her, loved her "cowboy" for 75 years on this earth. The 76th will be held in Eternity, for they were people of honor, courage, and grew up in a time when giving one's word was stronger than any written contract. Mammaw missed Papa for a lot of years, and now, that longing has been healed. The couple were married at the House of Relative in Florence, Texas, on July 29, 1950.
Love for Mamma was food. It was her love language. Your favorite dish was an "I love you" she served with impeccable skill. She and Papa worked land, cattle and also created a beautiful family. That family bloomed and blossomed and to Mammaw and Papa's great delight, they lived to love many great grandchildren.
Labor was a love language, too. That generation worked, they started with a few cattle and from there labored Hill Country land into a life a "cowboy" loved, it was also true for Mammaw. She picked her own pecans to make a pecan pie. She has a sweet tooth, so delivering red velvet cake or a peach cobbler to a sick or grieving friend was probably the very best cure. Mammaw loved to bake, and she did that long into her 90's. Mammaw quite clearly fed people with love, lots of it, and a meal in her home required several countertops and tow stoves.
If there are pecan trees in Heaven, her "cowboy" got his sweetheart back with home, and he's eating the best pecan pie ever made. Papa built houses, too, and maybe he helped a bit with preparation of their mansion in Glory. I know it's a beauty, tucked in a pecan bottom, just the right spot to rest in the sweetest peace.
Betty attended church at the Salado Baptist Church. She worked as a stay at home mom for many years, but would eventually retire from Compass Bank. Most of her adult life, Betty lived in Salado, but the last 15 years she would remain a resident of Rockdale with her youngest daughter Tammy and husband Troy. Betty will be deeply missed by her many friends and family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Martha Tanner, sister Glenda Vasicek, brother Dr. William E Tanner, and grandson Colter Tate Reynolds.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters Tammy Aline Lindsey-Pehl and Brenda Holder. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services for Betty will be held at Lawler Baptist Church on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10 o'clock a.m. with Ricky Lindsey officiating. She will be buried in Lawler Cemetery.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with these arrangements.
