In Loving Memory of Betty Ann Oestrick November 12, 1928 - October 27, 2025
Mom loved her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was strong, determined, and a great listener. Her favorite saying was "One day at a time sweet Jesus, that's all I ask of you." She enjoyed listening to church music, her dog Hanzie, and spending time with her family.
I called her my "Swinging Betty" because we would sit on the back porch swing for a long time. Sometimes we would sit in silence, sometimes she would let me vent, cry, or just talk. She would always tell me to let it out and she would listen. Give me a hug and say it will be ok. Our talks would include stories of her trips to Ohio to Grandma's (Catherine Schabbing) house for the holidays. Spoke of Grandma's sugar cookies fresh from the oven when the family arrived. Spoke of her grandfather (Jacob Weaver) and his reunions on his farm in Spencerville, Ohio. And how when he would visit the family in Detroit and take daily walks in the neighborhood.
Mom was a devote Catholic and devoted her life to Jesus. She said the rosary every day, sometimes more than once. Her faith in God was unshakable.
She loved her dogs and pets. Loved talking to her grand kids and great grandkids on video chat. She was always positive, always smiling, and grateful for her family. She was always there in our most challenging times of our lives and helped each of us through difficult times. She was our Rock.
Mom would never let her children know about the hardships she had (especially after losing her husband, our Dad). We did not want for anything. She provided housing, food, and comfort. Mom was kind, loving, hard worker and never complained about the work or the pain it caused her.
Mom is survived by her son, John (Mary), son David (Karl), daughter Marie, son Jimmy (Ginger), daughter Carolyn Ostendorf, son Paul (Nancy), and daughter Janice (Ron) Hurst; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Those to greet her in Heaven are her husband Charles, sons Mark and Carl, Grand Daughter Kristina Ostendorf, Grandson Joey along with his sister Rosie, and a long-time friend Sigmund Rieter (Sigi). Her sisters, brother, and parents. And especially Jesus.
We shall miss Mom so very much, but she will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget her love for life, family, Jesus, and her pets. You can rest in peace now Mom, all your children are home and safe. Love You.
