A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe, Louisiana, for Betty Jane Pettit Cannon, 93, who passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with her loving and devoted daughter by her side. Pastor Brian Mercer will officiate. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park, Monroe, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Kilpatrick Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until the service time.
Born on April 16, 1932, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Frank and Ruby Pettit, Betty lived a life full of grace, strength, and joy. She attended Ouachita High School and went on to become a professional dancer, continuing her love for dance well into her later years.
Betty married Jack Thomas Cannon and made Monroe her home. She built a thriving business, Twin City Answering Service, which she proudly ran for more than 67 years. A true trailblazer for women in business, she became a role model for her family and all who knew her.
Betty had an eye for fashion and was always beautifully dressed, especially when it came to her love of shoes - a passion she joyfully passed down to the women in her family. She loved watching sports, especially LSU football, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. More than anything, Betty treasured her family, and her warmth, humor, and unconditional love will remain her greatest legacy.
In her later years in Baton Rouge, Betty found joy in volunteering at Paper N Things alongside her dear friend, Stacey Rodriguez, who helped keep her sharp and active. Surrounded by family and friends, she remained full of life and love until the very end.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Pamela True Cannon Picou; her grandchildren, Richard Picou and wife Jolie,True Webb and husband Sam; her six great-grandchildren, Richard James Picou, Jack Cannon Picou, Easley Picou, Georgia Anne Picou, Clark Webb, and Amelia Webb; and her sisters-in-law, Shirley Pettit and Glenda Landrum.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thomas Cannon; her parents, Frank and Ruby Pettit; and her four brothers, Paul, Fred, Jim (Sue), and Frank (Mary Ann).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Betty's dear friend, loyal employee, and business manager of 16 years, Charlotte Russell, for her love, dedication, and care.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Lord, Paul Eiland, Sam Corso, Wally McMakin, Richard Picou, and Sam Webb.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Betty is now reunited with loved ones and dancing once again in Heaven.
