Betty Picott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Chapel - Trenton on Dec. 31, 2024.
Overseer Betty L. Picott, 89 transitioned from time to eternity on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
January 2, 1935; just after New Year started, Claysburg, Pennsylvanian welcomed its newest resident. For the late Jesse and the late Nedy Mae Woodland, Betty Lee would be the first of seven children.
After her education in Claysburg, Pennsylvania, Betty relocated to the Trenton, New Jersey area. She met and married Ernest S. Picott. The two would build a home, and raise three boys in Ewing Township.
Betty worked for the State of New Jersey. She would become secretary to the late Evelyn Mason. She also was the secretary for St. John Baptist Church in Ewing.
Betty L. Picott's love for the Lord grew. While listening to a Billy Graham Broadcast, she felt that she had not truly given her life to the Lord. Overwhelmed, she pulled over on the side of the road, to accept Jesus as her Savior.
Betty Picott's hunger grew and she sought to learn more about Jesus. She begin attending workshops and then school. Bible College in Jackson, New Jersey and earning degrees from International Theological Seminary (Florida), Bishop Margaret Payton, Dean of the school. This armed her as a teacher of the Bible.
In the 1990's Rev. Betty was ordained at Deeper Life Christian Tabernacle Church, by her cousin, the late Honorable John D. Brown and Pastor Bobbie Brown.
Ministry was not easy for women during the time that Rev. Betty answered her call. Some Pastors would not allow women to speak from the pulpit. That did not deter her from building a ministry.
Students of the gospel choir at Trenton State College were blessed to have her as their Advisor. Rev. Betty would keep them on the right path. Bible Study and Church services were held at Brower Hall.
In April 1996, Overseer Betty Lee Picott founded Living Word Ministries Christian Center, in Trenton, New Jersey.
Overseer Picott was very active in her Ewing Community. During Township emergencies, she could be found manning the telephones in the Police Department, meeting with the Ewing Park/Braeburn Civic Association, Hollowbrook Seniors, and the Ewing Township Senior Citizen Committee, (to which she was made a lifetime member).
During her final days, Overseer Betty L. Picott talked about the God she loved so much to a youth group during an activity. She told them how much she loved Jesus and that "he was a friend that would not leave nor forsake you."
Preceding Overseer Picott to glory was her husband, Ernest S.
