JANESVILLE---Betty J. Podwell, age 88, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Mercy Hospital. She was born in Jefferson County on August 13, 1921, the daughter of Henry C. and Bessie M. (Ellis) Thurner. She married Floyd Peter Podwell in Beloit on Dec. 13, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2004. Betty had been employed by Parker Pen. She and Pete were owners of Club 67 and LaPods Supper Club. She later worked for Elliott's Dress Shop. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the 41 Club, and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hill of Costa Mesa, CA; 3 grandchildren: Jessica (Matt) Bodas, Chad (Corey) Hill and Broc Hill all of Costa Mesa, CA; 3 great grandchildren: Reese, Peyton, and Layne Bodas; 3 brothers: Henry (Betty) Thurner, Marvin (Maria) Thurner and Robert (Lois) Thurner all of Janesville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Randy Timmerman officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 to 12:00 noon at the church. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
