Mrs. Betty Welsh Redfearn entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the age of 88. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, July 31, 2023 at Westside Baptist Church by Dr. Steve West with burial to follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Mrs. Redfearn was born July 5, 1935 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Ben Heath and Bessie Rayfield Welsh. She was a 1952 graduate of Chesterfield High School, where she served as president of the senior class. Following graduation, Betty began working at the State Board of Health in Columbia, SC and later worked with the Chesterfield County A.S.C.S. Office before spending the largest amount of her working career and retiring as an Executive Assistant from B.C. Moore’s Corporate Office, Cheraw, SC.
A lady with a sweet and welcoming demeanor, Betty always exemplified a kind Christian spirit and welcomed everyone with a friendly smile. She was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church for many years where she served as former G.A. Leader, VBS volunteer, and Senior Activities Coordinator. She was also a member of the Nursing Home Tape Ministry, the W.M.U., and the church prayer group.
A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Redfearn enjoyed cooking for her family and would frequently prepare meals for the sick and shut-ins in the community. Betty also enjoyed gardening and taking trips with her family. She lived out her personal motto daily, “Put God first, and everything else will fall into place!”
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Redfearn was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, William E. “Billy” Redfearn, Jr.; and all of her siblings, Wilbert Welsh, Thomas Jack Welsh, Lawson Welsh, Benson P. Welsh, Charles Welsh, Arie Lisenby, Hester Moore, Janelle Graham, Mildred Welsh, and infant Gerald Welsh.
Mrs. Redfearn will be lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas William Redfearn of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Sarah Whitley (Avera) of Oakboro, NC; sister-in-laws, Peggy Redfearn, Dot Welch, Margaret Welch; and generations of nieces and nephews.
Memorials are requested to be made to Westside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1417, Cheraw, SC 29520.
