It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty R. Rodden. After a long struggle with Alzheimer's, she passed from this earth into the loving arms of Jesus on July 18, 2025. The Master said, "well done good and faithful servant."
Betty was born on June 6, 1935, in Randleman, NC to Arthur and Pearl Dennis Russell. She was one of 15 children. She graduated from Randleman High School. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Thomas Jerry Rodden. She worked for many years as a dental assistant before becoming the office manager for Jerry Rodden Auction and Realty. She also had the privilege to be an in-home caregiver for B.W. and Bonnie Haithcock. Before her retirement, she worked for Ed Price & Associates as a receptionist.
She loved her Lord, her family, her church family and the many lifelong friends she made along the way. To know Betty, was to love Betty!!! She was a member of Southside Baptist Church (now known as Joy Community Fellowship) for 60 years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, sharing the love of Jesus to many children. The ladies of the Royal Pearl Sunday school class were her second family, many of whom are celebrating in Heaven with her today. What a wonderful homecoming!
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She was also preceded death by her sisters, Mattie Brown, Angus Burrow, Mamie Russell, Grace Teague, Francis Yow, Margret Snow, Decie Moody, and Midred Oliver, and her brothers, Clifford, Colon, Winfred (Wink), Arthur (Doc), and Jimmy Russell. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Dietz (Rick), Sharon Johnson (Dale). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jessica Trotter (Zach), Thomas Zain Johnson, Ashley Cosgrove (Ryan), Courtney Hill (Dylan), and her great-grandchildren, Olivia and Ellie Trotter, Jersey and Brewer Cosgrove, and Wyatt and Wesson Clark, Jerry's special cousin: Max Rodden (Megan) & Clark. She is also survived by her brother, Lee Roy Russell (Delois).
Betty was blessed with a large loving family. She prayed every morning, by name, for her family, for her church and for each and every one of her many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Joy Community Church on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Committal will follow the service at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family would like to extend special thanks to everyone at Terra Bella Assisted Living and to The Hospice House of Asheboro. We are so grateful for the wonderful care you provided for our precious mother.
In lieu of flowers, Betty has requested donations be made to the
Wounded Warrior Foundation or to Hospice of the Piedmont.
