Philip J. Rodden

Philip J. Rodden, 94, of Beverly, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at home surrounded by family. Son of the late Hugh and Rose (McElearney) Rodden and widower to the late Mary R. (Carroll) Rodden, Philip was born in Peabody and raised in Salem. He graduated from Salem High School in 1949, immediately enrolled in the United Shoe Machinery School, and then enlisted in the Navy in 1951.

He proudly served his country aboard the USS Midway during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Upon returning from the service, on a blind date, he met the love of his life Mary Carroll and were married in 1957. A Machinist by trade, he was employed at Metal Hydrites, the United Shoe and Varion until retiring in 1994. After retiring he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him "Grumpy". He also enjoyed playing golf and fixing anything he could with zip ties or duct tape - any color would do!

Philip is survived by: his daughter Kathleen Alexander and her husband William of Fairfield, CT; his daughter Carol Reynolds and her husband Douglas of Beverly; his son James Rodden and his wife Kristine of Georgetown; his sister Betty Smart of NH; his sister-in-law Barbara Carroll of Danvers; his many grandchildren: Melissa, Samantha and Jessica Alexander; Nicole Crawshaw and her husband Kyle; Michael Reynolds and his wife Kaley; Patrick Rodden and his fiancée Willa O'Callaghan-Shaw and Alyssa Rodden; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth and Paul and sister Margaret; his brothers-in-law Paul and Charles Carroll and his granddaughter Jamie Reynolds.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly, MA on Friday, September 26 at 11AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to the service also at St. Mary's Church from 10AM to 11AM. Burial will be at Central Cemetery, Beverly.
