Scott J. McLaughlin

July 27, 1961 - September 18, 2025

Scott J. McLaughlin, of The Villages, FL (formerly of Salem, MA), passed away at home on September 18, 2025, following a cardiac event. Born in Salem, Scott spent most of his life in his hometown and surrounding communities before relocating to Florida in 2023.

A gifted athlete and musician, Scott graduated from Salem High School in 1979. He was a standout swimmer and baseball player, setting multiple school records and earning induction into the Salem High School Hall of Fame. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Master's degree in Education from Harvard University. Scott built a long career as a software engineer with several organizations and most recently served as a Software Development Manager at Accu-Time Systems. Committed to public service, he served on the Salem City Council from 1996 to 1999.

Beyond his professional and civic life, Scott found joy in riding his horse and participating in hunts at Myopia Country Club. His love of music was lifelong; he spent countless hours at the keyboard and on electric, acoustic, and bass guitars.

Scott was deeply rooted in a family that loved him, and whom he loved in return. Most of all, he loved his child, whom he helped raise with his former wife, Corey Green McLaughlin.

Scott is survived by his beloved child, Loren McLaughlin; his sisters, Nicole McLaughlin and Kara McLaughlin of Salem; their spouses, Ben Waxman and John Keenan; and their children, Lillian and Noah Waxman, and Aidan and Erin Keenan, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Jeanette McLaughlin.

Service arrangements will be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable contribution in Scott's memory to either the American Heart Association (heart.org) or Windrush Farm (windrushfarm.org).
